The Latest
- The Barons secured the PAC Regular Season Championship with a 2-2 tie at Geneva on Wednesday, October 30th in the regular season finale. The Golden Tornadoes held a 2-0 lead at the half, but the Barons regrouped and rallied. In the 56th minute,
Ryan Miller netted his fifth penalty kick goal of the season to get the Barons on the board. In the final seconds,
Ryan Miller netted his second goal of the night after his brother,
Aiden Miller sent a 50 yard boot into the box.
Julien Freeman got the first touch while using all of his 6'2" frame, and that found the right foot of Miller to tie the game at 2-2 and stun the Golden Tornadoes. That was the first time that Geneva had allowed two goals all season, as they were leading all of NCAA Division III with .25 goals allowed per game entering this contest.
- Franciscan's 7-0-3 mark in PAC play is the first undefeated conference record in program history. Â
- The Barons ended the regular season with the top offense in the PAC at 3.06 goals per game. That is also good enough to be tied for tenth in all of NCAA Division III.
Â
Scouting the Gators
- Allegheny earns their way into this matchup with a 5-0 win in the PAC Quarterfinals against #5 Chatham, and they ride a three game winning streak.Â
- They won six of their last seven games to earn the #4 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament. Their lone loss in that stretch was to the Barons by a score of 5-1.
- Brady Napoleon has led the way offensively for the Gators with 18 goals in 18 games played. In fact, he scored in each of their last six wins with 14 goals in those games. The Barons kept him off the board in their regular season match.
Â
Our Cross
- The Reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Year,
Lucas Cross has put together a strong case to take home that hardware once again in 2024. His 38 points and 17 goals are both best in the conference at the end of the regular season.Â
- His 17 goals is tied for third most in a season by a Baron all-time. Assistant Coach
Leo Herrmann's 19 goals in 2017 is still the program record.
- With 75 points thus far in his three-year career, he sits at fourth most in program history. Herrmann's 162 in his 69 game career still sits atop the program rankings.
Â
The Three Amigos
- For the second season in a row, Franciscan has three players with 20 or more points.
Lucas Cross (38),
Ryan Miller (25), and
Julien Freeman (23) are the three players from this year's team to achieve this feat so far. Cross and Miller were apart of the group to do so last season along with
Joseph St. George.
Â
No Goals for You
- On October 12th,
Aiden Miller secured his 8th shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Thiel. That broke
Jax Mautone's program record to have the most by a Baron goalie in a single season. In 26 games played over his two-year collegiate career, he holds a 15-2-6 record with 10 shutouts thus far.
Â
Veteran Presence
- The Barons have 16 upperclassmen on their postseason roster, eight of which played minutes or started in the 2022 PAC Championship.Â
Benjamin James,
Joseph St. George,
Joshua Atkinson,
Lucas Cross,
Ryan Miller,
Aidan Henninger,
Augustine Rubino, and
Kolbe Rice were the players that appeared in that Championship victory.
- Rice scored the game-winning goal in the 2022 PAC Championship. Het netted a goal in the final seconds of the first half to give Franciscan a 2-0 edge. Bethany netted one second half goal, as the Barons held on to win their first conference title in program history.
Â
Coach Ridenour
- On October 4th at Westminster, Head Coach
Brent Ridenour became the 8th current NCAA Division III Head Coach to eclipse 350 wins. In his 25th season as a collegiate Head Coach, fourth at Franciscan, he has secured his 25th consecutive season with a record of .500 or better.Â
- He is in search of his ninth Conference Championship. He then won the 2022 PAC Championship with a 2-1 victory over Bethany at Trinity Health System Field. He won seven Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) titles over his 21 seasons at Ohio Northern. In 2012, the Polar Bears won 25 games, as they made it all the way to the NCAA National Championship Final.Â
- This will be the fourth straight season that Coach Ridenour has led the Barons to a PAC Semifinal berth, as he hopes to make it to his third PAC Championship game in the last four seasons.
