How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan's 2-0 victory over the Presidents moves them to 3-0 in PAC play. Those nine PAC points are now good enough for sole-possession of first place after two of the other undefeated teams tied each other and are now two points back.Â
This game was closely contested, but ultimately, the Presidents scored the game-winning goal in the 15'. Read that twice. The Barons won 2-0, but the Presidents scored the game-winning goal? The Barons had a free kick near midfield. Muldoon sent a ball all the way to the net. A Presidents player attempted to head the ball out and away which should have lead to a Baron corner kick. Instead, the routine play turned into a nightmare. The header attempt had poor contact and the ball headed straight into the net. Muldoon's kick, as impressive as it was, may seem worthy of an assist, but unfortunately the own goal voids any points for Baron players.Â
Just before the break, Corcoran scored his first goal of the season putting some distance between the Barons and Presidents on the scoreboard.
By the Numbers
- The Barons prevented the Presidents from having any corner kicks
- This is Miller's second shutout of the season
- Miller's one save climbs him to fifth in career saves passing William Herrmann
Who's Next?
Franciscan returns home to take on Westminster under the lights on Saturday. The Barons are 7-5-1 all-time against the Titans, including wins in the last five games. Westminster's last win came in the 2020-21 season that was played in the spring, so they have not beat the Barons in the fall since 2018. Last season, the Barons won 3-1 in New Wilmington with three second half goals.
Lucas Cross, Ryan Miler, and
Aidan Henninger found the back of the net in that victory.
