How It HappenedÂ
The incredibly successful season earned the Barons a bid into the ECAC postseason tournament. Unluckily, the drew the #1 seed in the tournament Virginia Wesleyan University. The Marlins were 33rd in NPI rankings and the second team out of an NCAA at-large bid.
Unfortunately for the Marlins, the Barons have been preparing for games like this all year. They took a long drive to Virginia Beach and brought a taste of Ohio Valley soccer to east coast.Â
The Barons took an early lead with goals from Godutti and Phillips, then quickly extended their lead to three with an early second half goal from Cross. The Marlins managed to get one by our defense, but Phillips scored his second of the game to put the Barons back up three. They road that to victory and now look to extend their season by beating their next opponent Rutgers Newark next Saturday.
By the Numbers
- Miller made 5 saves
- Phillips two goals is his first multi-goal game
- Venditti assisted on three of the Barons four goals
