How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving began the 2025-26 season at home with a dual meet against Bethany. Three Franciscan Seniors were honored prior to the match, as it was Senior Day for the Barons and their lone home meet of the season.
Haley Fifield, Sophia Gellner, Samantha Walton, and Gabrielle Lewis combined to swim a time of 2:06.74 in the opening event, the 200 yard medley relay.
Senior, Kate Kinst, made her season debut in the 1650 freestyle. She posted a time of 20:34.61.
A pair of Barons swam in the 200 yard freestyle. Gabrielle Lewis edged out Rachel Pergi by just two seconds to win that event. Sophia Gellner won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.02 seconds.
Avery Schmitz won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:45.7. Samantha Walton kept up the strong day for the Barons with a time of 1:13.34 in the 100 yard butterfly.
Schmitz won her second event, as she edged out Rachel Comstock by three seconds in the 100 yard freestyle. Three Barons swam in the 100 yard backstroke, as Fifield won with a time just under one minute and ten seconds.
Kinst won another distance event, as she won the 500 yard freestyle with a time just over six minutes. Gellner won her second event of the day with a time of 1:20.15 in the 100 yard breaststroke.
To end the day, Avery Schmitz, Rachel Pergi, Mary Therese Frank, and Kate Kinst swam the 200 yard freestyle relay in just under two minutes for another Baron win.
Up Next
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving will head to Allegheny for a tri-meet on Saturday, November 15th. They will compete against Pitt.-Bradford as well as Allegheny. Franciscan is 10-0 all-time against Pitt.-Bradford, but they have not swam against them since the 2022-23 season. Last season, the Barons fell to the Gators, the PAC foe, up in Meadville, but hopefully the Barons can earn a pair of wins in this trip.
