How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving made the trip to Grove City to compete against the Wolverines, and for the second year in a row, the Barons were able to beat them in the regular season.
Norah Kissinger made an immediate impact in her first collegiate meet. She placed second in the one meter dive with a score of 188.95. In the first swimming event of the afternoon, the Barons got their first of many first-place finishes. They won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:13.25.
Kate Kinst followed that win up with a win in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 20:20.36. Then, Rachel Pergi edged out Smanatha Walton to win the 200 freestyle, as the Barons took the lead and did not look back.
Haley Fifield won the 100 backstroke with a great time of 1:07.45. Sophia Gellner kept up the Franciscan success, by winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.10 seconds. In the three meter dive, Kissinger placed third with score of 144.75.
Fifield, the freshman, continued her strong day with a win in the 100 freestyle. Her time of 1:03.74 just edged out Avery Schmitz, who placed second. Mary Therese Frank won the 200 breaststroke with a time 2:45.62 to give the freshman a win as well.
Kinst picked up her second individual win, as she beat Gabrielle Lewis in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:01.76. The Barons closed out the meet on a high note, as Samantha Walton won the 100 butterfly, and the Barons won the 200 freestyle relay.
The Barons will return to Grove City for the PAC Championship in February.

Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving return to competition early on in 2026. They will take on Washington & Jefferson and Chatham on January 10th at W&J. The Barons are looking to pick up a pair of wins to teams that got the better of them last season. It will be the first of two meets in January before the PAC Championship takes place in February.
