How It HappenedÂ
The Women's Soccer 2025 Home Opener was against the Wooster College Fighting Scots yesterday afternoon. The Barons lost a close battle 0-1, but put together 90 minutes of pretty good soccer for a young group going against a team that has yet to be challenged this season.Â
Yesterday, the "fight" was from the Barons leaving the Scots hunched over and gasping for air. The Barons swarmed the Scots at every point of the field. After each Dexter or Igot run, two or three Scots were left hunched over in exhaustion. The Baron attack was persistent and full of breath holding moments. However, sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. Unlucky bounces and shots just a hair off-target led to the Barons getting shutout. While a tight and well played defensive game had one misfire that gave the Scots a gift and their lone goal of the day.Â
The Barons have played a brutal non-conference schedule. That experience was evident in the improvement from game one to yesterday. These Barons have the potential to be a huge threat in the PAC. The only thing standing in their way is their "fight". Can they continue to push themselves in the face of struggle. So far, that answer is a resounding yes. If that continues, look out PAC.
Inside the Numbers Â
- Dexter led the offensive charge with 5 shots
- Giguere made 4 saves
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will continue non-conference play at home next Wednesday when they take on Pitt.-Greensburg. The Barons are 9-7-3 all-time against the Bobcats, including six wins when they come to Steubenville. Last season, the Barons fell to them by a score of 3-0, but last time they played in Steubenville in 2023, the Barons won by a score of 4-0. The Bobcats are off to an up and down start in 2025, including a 4-0 loss to Saint Vincent.
