SAINT LOUIS - Franciscan Women's Tennis sent a pair of seniors to the ITA Central Region Championship over the weekend. Kina Ehlers and Claire Cardie made the trip for the third time in their collegiate careers. 

Doubles
   Action started in the Round of 64 on Friday morning. The Barons drew a duo from North Park University, Emilia Sand and Katarina Carlberg. A back-and-forth start was broken by the Barons rallying two points in a row to take a 6-4 lead. They were able to close out their opponents 8-6 to move onto the the round of 32.

    In that round, they drew the duo from the host institution, Washington University. Eleanor Archer and Caitlin Bui won the ITA Cup doubles championship last season and ended the 2024-25 season as the #4 rated doubles team in all of NCAA Division III. The Barons held there own but fell 8-2 to the nationally ranked duo.

Singles
   In the Round of 128, Kina Ehlers played Ivana Stefanova of Monmouth College on Friday. Ehlers trailed 5-2 in the opening set, but then rallied back with five points unanswered to win 7-5. She dropped the second set, and then lost in a very close tiebreaker.

     Claire Cardie, also in the Round of 128, played Claire Early of Adrian College in Michigan. Cardie dropped a close first set, and then answered with a dominant win in the second, but like Ehlers fell in a tight tiebreaker.

    On Saturday, the Barons resumed play in the consolation round of 32. Ehlers faced off against Emerson Donaldson of Rose-Hulman and won 8-2 in the one set match. Cardie also paired up with a played from Rose-Hulman and she made a Franciscan sweep, as she won 8-3. 

Next Up
    Franciscan will get right back into action, as they take on Saint Vincent on the road on Monday. The Barons are 11-0 all-time against the Bearcats, including a pair of wins against them last season. This season, Saint Vincent has had an up and down start and enter this match with a 1-2 PAC record.
