How It HappenedÂ
Coach Ridenour is known for his defensive mindset, and in the last couple of years, the Barons have been known for their prolific offense thanks to the pipeline of talented forwards and midfielders. For three years the upper-classman have enjoyed that mindset and expectation. In the last couple of games, we've seen a very patient offense. Traditionally, that has been a good thing, but we've seen some mental lapses that have led to quick counter attack goals. Once the opposition scores a goal there is a noticeable uptick in urgency followed by a brash of heart-stopping almost goal moments. The offensive opportunities have been very limited for the Barons, and finding that level of urgency earlier in the game may be a focus going forward with the Barons looking at a nationally ranked Kenyon followed by two more OAC opponents and AMCC powerhouse PS Behrend before PAC play begins.
This year the Barons have reloaded with talented freshmen forwards. The expectation and goal of this team is to play tournament level soccer. The non-conference gauntlet the Barons are facing is a golden opportunity to sharpen the team and get the young players accustomed to championship level caliber of play.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Miller made three saves in net
-the Barons out-shot their opponents 21(8) - 13(5)
-Venditti led the Barons in shots and shots on goal
Who's Next?
Franciscan will have their fifth-consecutive home game, as nationally ranked Kenyon comes to Steubenville. The Barons are 0-1-1 all-time against the Owls, including a tie last season. Kenyon was the #5 ranked team in the nation last year, and the Barons went to their place and took a 2-0 lead. Kenyon rallied with a pair of late goals to earn a tie at 2-2. Kenyon is off to a good start in 2025 with a very tough non-conference schedule.Â
