Ehresman Leads the Barons at Thiel Invitational

Sharon, Pa. - Franciscan Women's Golf played in their second tournament of the season and week on Saturday at the Thiel Invitational. The Barons placed 5th out of eight teams while improving their team score by more than 50 shots from their performance last year on the same course.

How it Happened
Catherine Ehresman led the Barons with an 83 on the par 70 course. That score was her best in her collegiate career and third-best by a Baron all-time. She carded eight pars, including five on her opening-nine 41. 

Natalie Smith shot a 92 with a trio of par on the opening nine. The highlight of the day was her first collegiate birdie, in her second match, when she poured in a 30 footer on the par three, #18. 

Chloe Puhl improved upon her collegiate-best round from Monday with a 101. She had a pair of pars and three bogeys to have the third-best score by a Baron. Rounding out the top four finishers for the Barons was Lauren David with a 107. 

Emily Browne and Katie Black shot a 114 and 115 respectively. The Barons shattered their program record score from Monday with a 383. 

Washington & Jefferson took the team title with a 329, and there was a pair of players that shot 76 to share medalist honors.

Franciscan has a few weeks between matches, as their next scheduled tournament is the Franciscan Fall Invitational on September 27th. 16 teams are scheduled to play over Homecoming weekend at Steubenville Country Club in this men's and women's event. This will be the largest home event in program history, and it is scheduled for a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.
