How It HappenedÂ
The Barons faced the Allegheny Gators last night. They took a one goal lead... before seceding... two goals... late to the Gators?... to lose 1-2? That is exactly what happened last year. If it weren't for the alternating home and away schedules, it would be easy to think there was some error in the stat file and you're just looking at last year's results.Â
Sure enough, the Barons felt a repeat of what happened at home last year on the road in Meadville last night.Â
Venditti found Goduti for the opening goal in the 62'. That pair continues to have good chemistry as it's a stat line that has been repeated a few times so far this season.Â
Last night's game was an offensive barrage. Both teams goalkeepers were continuously tested. The Barons registered nine shots on goal while the Gators tallied 11. The Gators equalizer came just a few minutes after the Barons took the lead, and their game-winner came in the 81'.Â
Since 2020, the Barons have had some pseudo-rivalries growing with big impactful games and repeat post-season meetings against teams like Bethany, Westminster, Geneva, and Grove City, but in the background was a matchup that wouldn't seem like a rivalry on paper, but the Barons-Gators game has been the most physical contest every year. The evidence is in the number of cautions. Specifically, 12 in the last three meetings. This matchup is not an elegant one, but a brutal one. It's become an intriguing game to look forward to each season.
Ultimately, the Gators walked away with the win and the Barons miss on PAC points. They still sit in playoff position and one point ahead of Westminster. They will face first place Grove City this Saturday in a 2025 PAC Championship rematch.Â
