PAC Outdoor Championships Recap

The Barons came into the conference championships with many runners jumping up the seeding chart just before championship weekend. When the coaches pre-championship poll was released, both the men's and women's teams were picked to finish 9th out of 12 teams.

Highlights from the Women

The women's team came into the meet with an intense focus that is apparent with the numerous personal & school records. This improved their standings from the expected 9th place finish to their 7th place finish in the PAC.

Highlights from the Men

  • The men's highlight of the day was John Sicree obliterating the school record in the 400m hurdles and winning the event with a time of 55.53
  • Micah Bragg set his best time in the 1500m with 4:08.25, then placed 3rd in the steeplechase with another personal best time.
  • the top three 5000m runners all ran personal best times with Luke Hurley making the podium with a time of 15:39.06
  • Nick Brass placed 7th in shot put
The men had some extreme highs and lows. From Sicree's amazing hurdle performance to the much anticipated Rohde 400m finishing with a DNF. The men placed exactly where the coaches poll predicted them.

There is still one meet left for runners to improve their times before the NCAA deadline. Rohde will need to find sixth tenths in his 400 to have a shot at cracking the top 22 and qualifying for nationals. Joe is the only Franciscan athlete sitting in the top 50 for their event. Any other runner will have to have a significant improvement on their time to make the NCAA national meet.

Up Next
There is one final meet this weekend before times are due to the NCAA. The Barons will travel back to Baldwin Wallace Thursday & Friday, May 7th & 8th for a final chance meet to improve times.
