STEUBENVILLE – Running on their home course, the Franciscan men's cross country team brought home their second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team championship in program history as the Barons won the 2018 AMCC Championship meet behind individual champion, Liam Galligan, Saturday afternoon.
Franciscan won its first team championship since the 2010 season and Galligan won the individual title for the second-straight year.
Galligan finished the 8K race on a muddy and hilly course through the rain with a time of 26:02.66 to take first. Sophomore Mark Borek took second overall as he crossed the line at 26:58.25, narrowly edging out the third-place finisher. Coming in third was senior Nick Long as he crossed the line on the heels of Borek with a time at 27:03.91.
After a pair of Penn St.-Behrend runners crossed the line, senior Grady Stuckman earned all-conference honors with a sixth-place finish with a time of 27:38.16. Junior Matthew Crotteau rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Barons as he took eighth overall with a time of 27:53.95.
Freshman Michael Sobus narrowly missed all-conference honors as he took 17th overall with a time of 30:42.65. Classmate Cader Coleman rounded out the top-seven runners for Franciscan as he took 21st overall with a time of 31:14.44.
The top-15 runners in the conference meet earn all-conference honors. Galligan is the first back-to-back individual champion in the AMCC since Bill Jones was the individual champion in from 2010-2012.
The Barons have the next week off before the 2018 NCAA Mideast Regional on November 10.
