Box Score STEUBENVILLE – Geneva used a pair of second-half goals to lead the Golden Tornadoes to a 2-1 win over the Franciscan women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon.
Just eight minutes into the second half, Megan Schoeneweis tied the game with her fifth goal of the season off a free kick right outside of the penalty box. Two minutes later, April Mann gave the Golden Tornadoes a 2-1 lead, one they would not surrender.
Franciscan had back-to-back chances on goal as junior Katie Kilian hit just missed a goal as she hit the crossbar and sophomore Kaitrin O'Leary put the rebound back on net but her shot went high.
Sophomore Gracie Tillman got the final shot of the game off but it went wide and Geneva hung on for the 2-1 win.
Senior Elizabeth Dawyot opened the scoring for the Lady Barons as she buried a corner kick from Kilian 18:55 into action to give Franciscan a 1-0 lead in the first.
Dawyot had a chance to give Franciscan a 2-0 lead just two minutes later, but her shot was saved by the Geneva goalie.
Geneva had chances to tie the game at the end of the first, but senior keeper Sarah Luebking made three of her eight saves in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
The Golden Tornadoes out-shot the Lady Barons 19-8 for the game and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Luebking made eight saves for the day while her Golden Tornado counterpart needed just one for the win.
The Lady Barons return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a 7:00 pm non-conference contest.
