Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Franciscan women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match to Chatham, 3-0, Tuesday evening.
The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead as Paxton Steffy took a pass from Victoria Vernail and scored in the 10th minute of the game. Senior Elizabeth Dawyot (Landenberg, PA/Kennett) got one of Franciscan's two shots of the first half off just 40 seconds after the Chatham goal but her strike went just high and the score remained the same.
The Lady Barons next shot did not come until there were 35 seconds left in the half but junior Kelsey Scott-Avery's (Batavia, NY/Home School) shot went wide and Chatham carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Cougars tacked on two more goals in the first 10 minutes of the second to give Chatham a 3-0 lead. With 18 minutes left in regulation, freshman Annie Beckman (Ann Arbor, MI/Dexter) took the final Lady Baron shot but was turned away by the Chatham keeper.
The score remained 3-0 in favor of the Cougars as the final horn sounded.
Senior keeper Sarah Luebking (Littleton, Co/Columbine) made nine saves in net for the Lady Barons. Chatham held a 25-3 lead in shots and a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Franciscan will hit the road on Saturday as the Lady Barons face off against Hilbert at 2:00 pm.
