Box Score BUFFALO, NY – The Franciscan women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals against Hilbert to propel the Lady Barons to their second-straight 3-0 AMCC win, Saturday afternoon.
Leading 1-0 after halftime, the Lady Baron defense allowed Hilbert to get off just one shot in the final 45 minutes while the FUS offense went to work. Franciscan out-shot the Hawks 17-1 in the second half and scored a pair of goals.
Junior Hannah Doyle (Silverton, OR/Saint John Bosco) gave the Lady Barons a 2-0 lead just over nine minutes into the second half with her first goal of the season. Sophomore Gracie Tillman (Lost Creek, WV/Home School) sent the ball back to Doyle as she played it into the box and Doyle one-touched it into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Barons continued their shot barrage until freshman Annie Beckman (Ann Arbor, MI/Dexter) scored her first career goal to give Franciscan a 3-0 lead with less than nine minutes to play. Beckman took a pass from sophomore Kaitrin O'Leary (Sidney, OH/Lehman) in the top corner of the box and blasted it past the Hilbert keeper.
The Hawks got their only shot of the second half off with just nine seconds to play but senior keeper Sarah Luebkine (Littleton, CO/Columbine) made her third save of the game to preserve her third shutout of the season.
Junior Sarah Cocozza (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) got the Lady Barons on the board midway through the first half with her second goal of the season. Cocozza corralled a feed into the box in front of the goal and made a move around a defender to score the game's first goal in the 27th minute.
The two teams traded a shot on goal each in the final 20 minutes but each goalie made a save as the Lady Barons carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
For the game, Franciscan out-shot the Hawks 32-5 and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Luebking made three saves in net for the Lady Barons and Cocozza and junior Katie Kilian (Ventura, CA/Saint John Paul the Great) each posted a team-high five shots for the Lady Barons.
Franciscan will return home on Wednesday as the Lady Barons host La Roche in a midweek 2:00 pm AMCC contest.
