PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
The Franciscan men's and women's track and field team opened the spring outdoor season at the Carnegie Mellon 5 Team Invitational, Saturday.

The Lady Baron team finished fifth with 18 points while the men's team took fifth with 11 points.  
 
Freshman Bridid Kelly posted three top-10 finishes for the Lady Barons. Kelly took sixth overall with a school-record throw of 8.62 meters in the shot put and eighth in the discus with a toss of 27.88 meters. On the track, Kelly finished seventh overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.42.
 
Freshman Alison Bryant posted the highest finish for the Lady Barons as she took third overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Bryant crossed the line at 12:22.0.
 
Bryant helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a fifth-place finish as she teamed up with sophomore Beth Flanagan, and freshmen Claire Dawyot and Ashlin LaFond to finish with a time of 4:36.93.
 
Individually, Dawyot took fourth overall in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:06.36 and LaFond finished sixth in the 800-meter run at 2:32.14.
 
Freshman Elizabeth Atkins took seventh overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:17.66 while sophomore Sydni Cain finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run at 22:31.04.
 
Junior Rachel Solomon took fifth in the javelin for Franciscan with a throw of 26.88 meters.
 
On the men's side, senior Michael Orsatti posted a pair of top-10 finishes for Franciscan. Orsatti took ninth in the 100-meter dash at 12:76 and ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.84. Sophomore Mark Borek also posted a pair of individual top-10 finishes as he took fifth in the 1500-meter run (4:07.5) and 10th in the 5000-meter run (15:50.37).
 
The 1500-meter run was full of Barons at the top as sophomore Liam Galligan took third overall with a time of 4:04.9 and senior Nick Long took sixth at 4:10.1. Senior Grady Stuckman
 
Galligan and Borek teamed up with sophomores Austen Duggan and Easton Syvertson to take seventh overall with a time of 3:40.64.

Duggan posted a ninth-overall finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.80 wile Syvertson took eighth overall in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.54. Freshman Michael Manion joined Syvertson at the top of the 400-meter run with a 10th overall finish with a time of 57.99.
 
Junior Maximilian Martin rounded out the top-10 finsihes for the Barons with an eighth-place time in the 100-meter dash at 12.73.
 
Franciscan track and field returns to action next Saturday in Bethany, WV at the Bethany College Invitational.
