How It Happened

The Franciscan Men's Baseball team would compete in their first game at Vaccaro Field of the season, their first game at home since 2011. The Barons delivered a great performance for the home fans, as they would win the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 12-6. 

Local product, Joshua Costello would start the action off early with a two run double in the first inning that scored Patrick Walllace and Noah Smith. Costello would advance to third, and Declan Peterson would hit a sacrifice fly to score the third run of the day. The Titans would respond in the 3rd inning, as Mike Grazier would double in a pair of runs to pull the Titans within one. Kyle Ferrance would keep the hot bats going in the fifth inning, as he stroked a double to right field that would score Joshua Costello.

Tyler Barnot would spark the Titans offense back up with a double to left field that scored Austin Webb. The Barons would then have a huge inning in the seventh. Declan Peterson registered his first RBI with an infield single that scored Costello. Brendan Burke would follow that up by reaching on an error that would score Kyle Ferrance. Joshua Speaker would reach on an error also that would score Declan Peterson. Daniel Halsey would keep the action going as he ripped a single that would score Burke. Patrick Wallace would send a ball up the middle the would score pinch runner Michael Maynard, and that would be a five run inning for the Barons.

The Barons would keep up the strong offense in the eighth, by plating three more runs. Peterson, Burke and Halsey would deliver the RBI knocks for Franciscan. The Titans would score three runs in te 9th, but Franciscan would win their second PAC game of the season.

At the Plate
-Declan Peterson had a team high three hits and three RBIs
-Joshua Costello and Daniel Halsey each had a pair of RBIs in game one.
-Costello would score a team high three runs.
-The Barons would out-hit the Titans 13-11
-Kyle Ferrnace would continue his hot start by reaching base four times with two hits and two walks. 
  
On the Mound
-Starter Jacob Whitmore would only go three innings while allowing two runs, both of which were unearned.
-Joseph Hurlbert earned the win in his collegiate debut. He would have 90 pitches over 5.1 innings of relief. He would allow four earned runs, with three coming in the ninth.
-Patrick Wallace closed another game out for the Barons, as he got the final two outs.

How It Happened
In the non-conference matchup, runs came early and often for both teams. Both teams would score runs in each half of the first three innings. Westminster would hold onto their lead, as the held the Barons scoreless in the final three frames to earn the win.

Westminster would open up the scoring with a two RBI single in the top of the first. The Barons would match the crooked number, with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. James Becker would steal second, causing a wild throw by the catcher, that would score his teammate Patrick Wallace from third. Dylan Robb would drive in the other run with a sacrifice fly that scored Becker.

In the second Westminster would score a run on a tough-luck error by second baseman Patrick Wallace. He would catch the Barnot line out, then while trying to double off Murgenovich at first, the ball would hit the runner and carom out of play. Thankfully Wallace would make up for it in the bottom half, with an RBI single to left that scored Noah Smith. 

Westminster would put up four runs in the third inning to retake the lead. Fordyce would get a two RBI knock, and a Davis triple were most of the damage done by the Titans. The Barons for the first time in game two, were not able to fully match the Titans offense. The Barons would plate a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Watson. It scored Robb and Kyle Ferrnace would also score on a throwing error that sent a ball out of play. Dylan Robb would help the Barons score another run when he hit an RBI double in the fourth to put the Barons down 7-6. The score would stand, as the Titans pitching held the Barons scoreless over the final three frames. 

At the Plate
- Patrick Wallace led all Baorns with three hits in game two.
-Cathcer Dylan Robb earned his first start of the season, and he would take advantage with a team high 2 RBIs.
-James Becker added a hit, scored two runs and swiped two bags.
-Kyle Ferrance continued to get on base, as he would reach four times with one hit, one walk, and hit by a pitch twice.
-Fordyce and Schrader each drove in two runs for the Titans
  
On the Mound
- Samuel Tyler made his college debut and started for the Barons, but he only lasted two innings while allowing three earned runs.
- Andrew Williamson earned the loss, while he struggled with control in his debut and allowed four earned runs.
- Brody Hynes and Daniel Halsey were the bright spots on the mound, as they combined for five scoreless innings while allowing a combined three hits.

Up Next
Franciscan will return to PAC action as they travel to Chatham for a doubleheader on Saturday. This will be the first time the Barons and Cougars play each other on the baseball diamond.
