How It Happened
The Franciscan Baseball team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) leaders and #7 nationally ranked Washington & Jefferson, falling 20-6.

Washington & Jefferson would strike first, scoring three times in the top of the second inning and twice in the top of the fourth to take an early 5-0 lead. Starter Ryan Neely kept the high powered Presidents offense in check, recording 5 strikeouts.

Franciscan looked to get back in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kyle Ferrance led off the inning with a single into center field. Chris Furka then launched a double into left field, putting runners on second and third. Joshua Costello would then hit a hard ground ball allowing for Ferrance to score. After Declan Peterson worked a walk, Joshua Speaker hit a hard ground ball that went off the glove of the Presidents shortstop allowing Furka to score and Peterson to advance to third base making the score 5-2.

The Presidents would respond, scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 10-2 lead and forcing Neely from the game. Franciscan looked to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning. James Becker led off laying down a picture perfect bunt down the first base line to start the Barons rally. Patrick Wallace then lifted a double just over the glove of the right fielder to put runners on second and third. Kyle Ferrance then smacked a single through the right side, bringing in both runners, cutting the lead to six. In the bottom of the sixth inning after Daniel Halsey got hit by a pitch, Dylan Robb smashed a two-run homerun over the center field fence to pull the Barons within four runs.

Washington & Jefferson would answer back, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh and six runs in the top of the eight to retake control of the game, winning 20-6.
