How It Happened
The Franciscan baseball team had their season come to an end, as they fell in the PAC Baseball Tournament on Friday afternoon in Washington, Pa. The Bearcats would jump out to an early lead, that the Barons could not surmount in the entirety of this nine inning affair.

Everything that could go wrong, went wrong for the Barons in the first inning. Santana would leadoff with a double, that would be followed up with an infield single. Evans would then rip a single to left field to score Santana from third. Then the power hitting Dailey would belt a three run home run just missing the scoreboard in left field. Smith would allow another infield single, and then a double would score the fifth run of the inning before an out had been recorded. Coach Rick Carver had seen enough, as he would go to the bullpen with freshman Joseph Hurlbert coming in to pitch.

The number two hitter, Sabol would get it started in the second inning again for the Bearcats. He would start a run of five straight hits that would plate four runs without an out recorded. That would chase Hurlbert out of the game, as Coach Carver would turn to Jacob Watson. This would be Watson's first relief appearance of the season. He would make an immediate impact, by picking off the runner at first before even throwing a pitch. Watson would then register his first strikeout and get a fly out to center to end the inning.

The Barons would strike back for the first time in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, James Becker would hit an opposite field double, and Daniel Halsey would turn the order over with a single. Patrick Wallace would reach base on a throwing error by the third baseman. Brendan Burke would keep it going, as he singled in Halsey. Chris Furka would then drive in Wallace on another throwing error, this time by the shortstop. Franciscan would end the second trailing 9-3.

In the fourth, the Barons would strike again. With two outs, Patrick Wallace would register his first hit of the day with a single to right center. Burke would deliver another single to center, and then Chris Furka would then knock in Wallace on a single to the shortstop. That would tighten this one to a 9-4 margin. The Bearcats would respond in the top of the 5th by scoring two runs on just one hit, as they would stretch the lead back up to 11-4. Saint Vincent would tack on one more run in the eighth and the ninth. Franciscan would not be able to get the bats going in the later innings, as they would fall 13-4.
