Track Has a Strong Showing at Kent State

The Franciscan Men's and Women's Track & Field teams traveled to Kent State this weekend to compete there for the second time in two weeks. Liam Galligan brought home gold in the 5000 meter run, as he posted a new personal best in the event.

Highlights for the Lady Barons
- Taylor Smith ran in the first event of the day, as she placed 62nd in the mile run.
- Alison Bryant ran to an impressive third place finish in the 5000 meter run. Her time of 18:26.44 was good enough to best a couple of Division I and II runners, while still trying to get a qualifying time for the NCAA Championship. 
- Jessica Campbell ran to a 19th place finish in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:04.98. Alice McAnespie placed 25th.
- Ashlin LaFond posted a time of 2:32.28 in the 800 meter run to place 31st. Rachel Hurley placed 45th.
- Beatrice Wear posted a 19th place finish in the 3000 meter run.

Highlights for the Barons
- Austen Duggan led the way for the Barons in the mile run, as he placed 29th with a time of 4:32.35.
- Liam Galligan put on a show in the 5000 meter run, as he ran to a first place finish with a time of 14:27.73 (14:37.02#). This was the first time he has ran this distance since December. His time moved him up to 22nd place in the nation in the this event, as he looks to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
- Ryan Ozymy and Easton Syvertson ran in the 400 meter run, as they finished 27th and 37th respectively.
- In the 200 meter dash, Joseph Rohde placed 27th with a time of 23.34. Right behind him was David Cappello with a time of 23.60 in 36th place.
- Four Barons ran in the 3000 meter, and they were led by Mark Borek. He ran to a 7th place finish with a time of 8:47.71. George Kaftan placed 19th, David Di Nardo 21st, and Danny Donovan 22nd. 
- In the 1600 relay, the team of David Cappello, Joseph Rohde, Austen Duggan, and Liam Galligan ran a 3:30.62 to place in 7th. They bested Westminster by a couple of seconds, who placed 8th.

Up Next
Franciscan will head to Youngstown on Thursday for the PAC Indoor Track & Field Championship. Last season these were not able to be played, so this will be Franciscan's second attempt at a PAC Championship on the indoor side. A couple of Barons and Lady Barons are penciled in as favorites in their events, but the deepest team will take home the title on Thursday.
