How It Happened
The Franciscan Men's Lacrosse team opened the season at home on a cold blustery day at Trinity Health System Field. The visiting Hiram Terriers spoiled the home opener by sneaking out with a win over the Barons, by a score of 10-8.
The Barons would be the first to get on the board, as Dominic Miraglia scored his first goal of his collegiate career with a nice one on one move on a fast transition play. The Terriers would answer with four goals in a row, as the Barons would trail 4-1 in the early goings of the second quarter. Freshman Joseph Redmond would end the run, as he found the back of the net with nearly thirteen minutes left in the quarter. After a pair of Hiram goals, Gavin Cook would score his first of the season to send us to halftime trailing 6-3.
The Barons were the first to score in the second half, as Andrew Carpenter scored on a nice pass from Alexander Dhabliwala. The Terriers would go on a three goal run, including two man-up goals as the game began to get more physical. Samuel Marshall ended the third quarter with his first goal, and Franciscan would trail 9-5 heading into the fourth quarter. Pete Rosaschi got the Barons focused and ready for the final fifteen minutes, as Gavin Cook wasted little time in adding his second goal of the day. The Terriers added a goal a few minutes later to set the score at 10-6 with 10 minutes left to play. Marshall and Cook each added goals down the stretch, but the Terriers did a good job of controlling possession to drain the final minutes, as Franciscan fell 10-8.
