How It Happened
Franciscan baseball hosted Bethany for a night game on Tuesday as first pitch happened at 7:15 on the brisk, breezy evening. Franciscan would look to be in command of this one early on as they put up a crooked number in the first inning. Patrick Wallace led off with single, and Ryan Scavnicky followed it up with one of his own. With one out Brendan Burke delivered a no-doubter, as the 400 foot shot to left would give Franciscan a 3-0 lead.

Jacob Watson was cruising until the third inning when her began to lose some command. The Bison would score a run in the third and fourth off of wild pitches. The Bison Head Coach would also be ejected for multiple disagreements with the home plate umpire. In the fifth, Watson would allow a pair of runs on a throwing error on a bunt single by Whiteherse. After a couple quick outs, Berg delivered a two RBI single that would plate a pair of Bison and give them a 6-3 advantage.

The Bison would go to the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth, and Nolf would struggle with command early. He walked Daniel Halsey and Aidan Hickey to start the inning. Then Ryan Anselmino delivered an RBI single against his former team. Still with not outs, David Ferroni would single to load the bases, but after a brief meeting on the mound, Nolf retired the next three batters without allowing another run.

Samuel Tyler would pitch very effectively out of the bullpen, as he provided some much needed length for a Franciscan team with a very busy schedule ahead of them. He would allow one earned, as Brody Hynes would come to relieve him in the eighth. A Francisca error would cost the Barons a pair of unearned runs in the ninth, as Bethany would take a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Nolf would stay on the mound to look for his fifth save of the season. Patrick Wallace would lead off the inning with an infield single. Then with one out, Michael Maynard drew and walk, and Brendan Burke was hit by pitch to load the bases. Bethany would remain with their closer even though his pitch count was climbing quite high. He would prove himself again, as he got out of his second bases load jam without allowing a run, as Bethany would hold on to win this one.

At the Plate
- Brendan Burke hit his 5th home run of the year, tying Joshua Costello for most in a season in Franciscan history.
- Patrick Wallace and David Ferroni each had two hits.
- James Becker had a pinch hit in the eighth, his first plate appearance since an injury at Christendom.
- The Barons drew eight walks, but struck out 13 times.

On the Mound
- Starter Jacob Watson pitched 4.2 innings with two earned runs, but walked four and had six wild pitches.
- Samuel Tyler settled the game down and pitched a strong 2.1 innings of work with two strikeouts and one earned run.
- Brody Hynes cleaned up the rest with two runs being unearned on him over two innings with two strikeouts.

Up Next
Franciscan will have little time to rest and recover, as they head to Chatham for a single nine inning game in Pittsburgh Wednesday evening. First pitched scheduled at 7:30 p.m., 21 hours after the last out was recorded in Steubenville on Tuesday night. Franciscan went 3-0 against Chatham in PAC matchups last season with one loss in a non-conference game. One of the wins came in an 18-17 thriller where the Barons came back from down 10-0.
