Women's Soccer Travels to Westminster for PAC Semifinal

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO - Franciscan Women's Soccer kept their season alive on Saturday by advancing in a shootout over #3 Saint Vincent in the PAC Quarterfinals. That earned the Barons a birth in the PAC Semifinal for the second season in a row, as they will travel to #2 Westminster on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. This will be a rematch of the 2022 PAC Championship.

Offensive Power
Tania Davidson ranks first in the PAC in shots (94) and shots on goal (52). Her 34 points is second best in the PAC, as she has scored a goal in each of Franciscan's seven wins this season. Earlier this season, Davidson became the program leader in points, as she passed Ashley Ruttencutter '14. She is now closing in on the 100 point milestone, as she sits at 98 points entering this matchup. Freshman Chloe LaRosa of Westminster leads the conference with 35 points, as part of the #1 ranked offense in the league. The Titans are averaging 3.438 goals per game.

I'm Kind of a Big Dill
The Barons have used four different goalkeepers this season with Rebekka Dill battling some injuries in September. She is back and fully healthy, as she has recorded three consecutive shutouts. In fact, all six of her wins this season have came in shutout fashion. Her six shutouts this season is tied for the most ever in a season by a Baron with Nikki Traylor from the 2008 season. With her shutout against Allegheny, she became the all-time leader in program history for shutouts, as she currently has 13 over her three-year career.

Family Matters
The Barons have three sets of sisters on the 2023 roster with all six seeing significant minutes as of late. Juliana Rubino and Bella Rubino are second and third in scoring for the Barons this season. Tania Davidson as mentioned earlier is joined by her older sister, Juliana Davidson who has started for the Barons as of late. Last but not least, Gabriella De La Torre and Maria De La Torre have logged the most minutes in the midfield this season.

All-Time Against the Titans
Franciscan is 2-8-1 all-time against Westminster. The Barons are looking to snap a two-game losing streak against them on Wednesday. The Barons last win against the Titans came in the regular season last year at Westminster. Tania Davidson scored a pair of goals, and Bri DeChristopher had 13 saves to notch the shutout. Earlier this season, the Titans won 3-1 over the Barons with three first half goals. Davidson scored once in the second half, but the Titans defense would stand strong.

The Coaches
Franciscan Head Coach Sarah Salamida is in her fourth year at the helm for the Barons. This is her third trip to the PAC Postseason, as she has had some instant success with 30 wins already. Girish Thakar has been the Head Men's and Women's Coach at Westminster since 2002 and with the Men's teams since 1998. Combined he has won over 500 games while being a Head Coach for over 24 seasons. He has won 10 PAC Championships, five the men and five with the women. His last Women's Championship came in 2007.
