Highlights for the Women
- Jessica Campbell was the first Baron to run in the 2023-24 season, as she ran in the 5,000 meter for the first time in her career. Her time of 19:46.46 placed her 17th out of the 25 runners in the field. It would also be the fifth fastest indoor 5K in program history.
- Theresa Grijalba and Julianna VanderPloog made their collegiate debuts in the 60m. Grijalba posted a time of 8.66 seconds with VanderPloog running in a time of 9.09 seconds.
- MaryElizabeth Savage debuted in the mile run with a time of 6:29.36 to place 31st.
- Rebecca Bolster posted a time of 1:03.31 in the 400m which would be three hundredths of a second off her collegiate best time for a great start to the season.Â
- Bolster was also the fastest Baron in the 200m with a time of 28.41 seconds.
- Grijalba had an impressive showing in the long jump. Her best jump of 4.64m is the third longest in program history. She also had a best triple jump of 8.97m to place 24th in that event.Â
Highlights for the Men
- Â Four Barons ran in the 60m dash qualifying. Andrew Menck would be the fastest with a time of 7.32 seconds. John Sicree was less than a second behind him at 7.39 seconds. Luke Tran and Peter McCauley made their collegiate debuts at just around eight seconds.
- Seamus Sommers led the way for the Barons in the 5,000 meter run. He posted a time of 16:48.09, and Nathaniel Tokarsky ran in a time of 17:48.98.
- The Barons best placer on the track would be Ryan Ozymy in the 400m dash. He came in 11th with an impressive time of 49.22 seconds. Dwayne Gethard posted a new personal best time of 52.43 seconds.
- Ozymy followed that up with a new personal best time in the 200m. His time of 22.49 seconds is also the second fastest in program history. Andrew Menck ran a 23.24, Brendan Vander Woude ran a 24.60, and Peter McCauler finished in 26.46 seconds.Â
- In field events, Alexander Blose had a new personal best in the pole vault. He cleared 4.05m to improve upon his own school record.
- Luke Tran had a best long jump of 4.65m in his first collegiate go at this event.Â
- Nicholas Brass posted his second-best collegiate throw in the shot put to place 30th with a throw of 12.82m. Charles Jardine threw one 11.56m. Raphael Blose and Tyson Smith also threw.Â
Up Next
The Barons will not return to action until after Christmas Break. They will travel to Muskingum on January 13th for their Invitational. This will be the first of two trips to New Concord this season, as they are planning on competing in their February Invitational as well. In January, it will be the second time that the Barons have ran in the Henry D. Bullock Health and Wellness Complex which opened its doors last September. February 17th, 2023 the Barons were able to break several school records at Muskingum on the very fresh, new track surface. The Barons should also have several additional athletes make their season debuts, as some were studying abroad in Austria for the fall semester.Â
