ALLIANCE – The Franciscan men's and women's track and field teams posted a pair of ECAC qualifying times at the Jon Homol Open, hosted by Mount Union, Saturday.
Freshman Liam Galligan joined two of his teammates with an ECAC qualifying time with his performance in the 5,000-meter run. Galligan finished seventh overall with a time of 15:32.70, four and half seconds faster than the qualifying time. The freshman joins juniors Nick Long and Hunter McDonnell with a spot in ECAC championships at the end of the season. Long earned his spot with his performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last week at Bethany with a school-record time of 9:51.53 while McDonnell has secured two spots in the championships in the 400-meter hurdles (59.08) and the high jump (1.83 meters), both marks were posted at Bethany.
Long and freshman Mark Borek took seventh and eighth in the 1,500-meter run within 15 seconds of each other. Long took seventh with a time of 4:08.47 while Borek finished eighth with a time of 4:08.62.
The 4x400-meter relay team of junior John Bolster, freshman Austen Duggan, senior Carlo Fabian, and freshman Sergie Daez took eighth overall with a time of 3:40.18. Fabian took eighth overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.57 meters.
On the women's side, sophomore Janelle Lunde earned an ECAC qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles. Lunde took 11th overall with a time of 1:10.69 for her spot in the championships. The sophomore took 10th in the long jump with a distance of 4.30 meters and fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.65 meters.
Freshman Sydni Cain earned a spot in the top-10 in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:26.29 while she kicked off a 10th-place run for the 4x400 meter relay team. Cain, freshmen Beth Flanagan and Morgan Litterer, and Lunde finished with a time of 5:12.76.
Franciscan returns to action next week as the teams head to New Wilmington, PA on April 14 for the Westminster Invite.
