BALTIMORE, Md. – The Franciscan men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2018 ECAC championship meet on Wednesday with a pair of school records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

In the first race of the meet for the Lady Barons, junior Bernadette Williams and freshman Beth Flanagan ran the two fastest 3,000-meter steeple chases in program history. Williams took fifth overall with a school-record time of 12:10.30. Flanagan wasn't far behind as she set a personal-best time as she crossed the line at 12:26.07. Flanagan's time is the second-fastest time in school history.

Junior Nick Long ran in his first event of the championships and broke his own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Long finished fourth overall with a time of 9:45.13, dropping the school record by three seconds. Long ran his fastest lap with the steeples in the final lap to secure fourth with a split-time of 1.12.005.

Sophomore Janelle Lunde will compete for the Lady Barons on Thursday in the 400-meter hurdles while Long is joined by freshmen Mark Borek and Liam Galligan in the 1,500-meter run. Junior Hunter McDonnell will compete in the 400-meter hurdles and high jump and the 4x800-meter relay team of freshman Austen Duggan, junior John Bolster, sophomore Patrick Tansill and Galligan will close out the meet for the Barons.
