SCRANTON, Pa. – The Franciscan men's and women's track and field teams closed out the second day of the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference championship meet with several school records, personal records, and all-conference honors. The both teams took third overall for the weekend.

The men opened the day with a Baron-laden 5,000-meter run. Sophomore
Liam Galligan took first with a time of 16:01.94 while senior
Nick Long picked up honorable mention honors in the event with a third-place finish at 16:16.29. Sophomore
Mark Borek took fourth-overall at 16:19.06. Senior
Grady Stuckman came in sixth at 16:52.00 to round out the scoring runners while
Matthew Murphy took 11
th overall with a time of 21:57.67.
The Lady Barons also ran the table in the 5,000-meter run with six runners in the top eight. Freshman
Elizabeth Atkins led the pack with a third-place, honorable mention, and personal best time of 19:54.42. Freshman
Grace Scrocca was fourth with a personal-best time of 20:31.59.
Sydney Lorentz was the final scoring runner for the Lady Barons as she took sixth with a time of 22:05.77.
Sydni Cain was right behind as she came in seventh at 22:21.64 while
Taylor Smith posted a personal-best time of 22:26.17 to take eighth.
After qualifying the day before for the 200-meter dash,
Ashlin LaFond and
Claire Dawyot made their way to the podium in the finals. LaFond took fifth overall with a time of 28.70 while Dawyot took seventh at 29.66.
The men's and women's 800-meter runs were full of Barons on the podiums. Galligan took second with a all-conference second team and personal-best time of 1:56.41 while Borek came in sixth at 2:04.80. In the women's race, Dawyot set the school record with a third-place time of 2:24.04, earning honorable mention honors. LaFond took fourth with a time of 2:29.12.
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Brigid Kelly set her personal best time while capturing second-team honors with a second-place finish of 18.24.
Sophomore James Craig picked his first gold medal of the weekend as he won the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 50.26 while
Easton Syvertson took eighth overall with a time of 53.94. On the women's side, LaFond earned an honorable-mention accolade as she took third overall with a time of 1:04.79.
After breaking the school record in the prelims, Craig took eighth overall in the finals of the 100-meter dash as he crossed the line at 12.07. In the women's race, LaFond took fifth overall with a time of 13.60.
The Lady Barons placed three in the top-eight of the 3,000-meter steeplechase as Bryant earned a second-team all-conference honor with a second place finish with a time of 11:51.79.
Kristine Stickney set a personal-best with a fourth-place time of 12:38.48 while Beth Flanagan took fifth overall with a time of 13:13.98.
In the men's race, Long brought home gold with a time of 9:50.24 and Michael Sobus set a personal-best with a fourth-place finish at 11:23.32.
Craig set his personal best in the 200-meter dash as he took seventh overall in the finals with a time of 23.56.
Austen Duggan, Craig, Galligan, and Syvertson set the school's record in the 4x400-meter relay as they took third overall with a time of 3:30.75.
In the field events, Kelly had an impressive day as she posted career-bests in the high jump (4
th/1.25 meters) and the shot put (4
th/9.27 meters). Her shot put set the program's record for full members of the NCAA. Kelly earned all-conference honors in the discus as she posted a distance of 25.53 meters.
Syvertson hit a personal-best in the long jump as he took 11
th with a distance of 5.56 meters while
Sean Growe took fourth overall in the shot put with a time of 12.56 meters.
In all, the Franciscan track and field teams had 20 all-conference accolades, including four gold medals.
