How It Happened
The Franciscan Baseball team would win at Thiel 5-3 on Monday afternoon. Ryan Neely pitched seven plus innings and looked much more like hinslef than his previous start. Joshua Costello would go yard again, his third home run in the three game series.

The Tomcats would strike first in the first inning, as they were able to score two runs off of starter Ryan Neely. Neely would do a great job of avoiding the barrel of the bat, but a couple placed hits and two defensive errors helped the Tomcats plate a pair. Thiel would continue their scoring in the second inning, as a wind-aided two out double would score a Tomcat from third base.

Franciscan would get on the board in the third inning. Daniel Halsey would lead off with a bunt single, and Austin Horan would hit a single to put runners at first and third. Chris Furka would deliver an RBI single up the middle to score Halsey. Kyle Ferrance would help add another run, as he would send a ball deep enough to score Horan on a sacrifice fly.

The Barons would find the equalizer in the fifth inning. With two outs, Joshua Costello would hit his third homer of the series over the left field fence. It would be Costello's fourth home run of the season. Franciscan would continue to apply pressure, as the were able to load the bases up in the sixth. With two outs, Chris Furka would reach base on an error by the third baseman that would score Daniel Halsey, to give Franciscan a 4-3 lead.

Franciscan would make it three consecutive innings with a run scored, as Kyle Ferrance would leadoff the inning with his first hit of the day. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then Brendan Burke would drive a ball up the middle that would score Ferrance from second.

Ryan Neely would pitch into the eighth, but the first three runners would reach base to load them up full. Coach Rick Carver would go to Joshua Speaker in relief. Speaker would pull off magical work by getting a groundout then a double play to allow no runs in the eighth. Speaker would then get two quick outs in the ninth, before walk and double would put runners ar second and third. Speaker would get the last batter to fly out to right field, and win the three game series 2-1.

At the Plate
- Joshua Costello went 2-4 belting a solo home run in the fifth inning, tying the Franciscan season record with four in a season
- Kyle Ferrance went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored
- Austin Horan went 2-4 with a run scored
- Daniel Halsey was 3-5, scoring twice

On the Mound
- Ryan Neely pitched seven strong, allowing two earned runs and striking out a pair
- Joshua Speaker would get a two inning save, his first of his career.

Up Next
Franciscan will have a quick turnaround, as they will host St. Vincent tomorrow for a doubleheader. Play will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Vaccaro Field. The first game will be scheduled fro seven innings, with the second scheduled for nine innings, and both counting against PAC conference records. The Barons are 1-3 all-time against the Bearcats, as Franciscan won 9-7 in 2010. Franciscan trailed 6-0 in that game, but would come all the way back to win. Anthony Pontarelli would drive in Ryan Marrow on a double in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. Matt Liedel would follow that up with a double of his own, to give the Barons some cushion. Now Assistant Coach Tom Costello drove in a team high two RBIs in the win. Daniel Brink would pitch a nine inning complete game and earn the win.
