Franciscan Baseball Falls in a Pair to Bethany

How It Happened
The Franciscan Baseball team would trail 7-0, only to make a huge comeback, but fall 8-7. The Barons plated three runs in the final inning, for the third straight game, but would lose by one run to the Bison.

Bethany would get out ahead early in this one, as they were able to plate five runs in the second inning and two in the third inning, as they held a 7-0 lead. Franciscan would begin their comeback in the third, as Chris Furka would hit a sacrifice fly that scored Daniel Halsey. The Barons would keep chipping away, as Patrick Wallace grounded out to drive in Joshua Speaker. Franciscan would then add a pair of runs in the sixth, as Declan Peterson doubled in Kyle Ferrance. Then Dylan Robb doubled in Peterson. That would set the score at 7-4 heading into the seventh inning. 

Relief pitcher Brody Hynes would allow his lone blemish of the day, as an  unearned came through in the seventh for Bethany after a pair of singles. That would send Franciscan into the bottom of the the seventh trailing by four runs. Daniel Halsey would leadoff with a single. After a Patrick Wallace pop out, two Franciscan batters would reach on hit by pitch. With the bases juiced, Joshua Costello would drive in Halsey on a single. Kyle Ferrance would then deliver and opposite field single to left, that plated a pair, and just like that, it was a one run game with one out. Declan Peterson would foul out, and Dylan Robb would ground into a fielder's choice to end the threat. 

At the Plate
- Ferrance, Costello and Halsey each had a pair of hits.
- Kyle Ferrance had a team high two RBIs.
- Daniel Halsey scored a pair of runs.
- Joshua Speaker, Dylan Robb and Declan Peterson each had doubles.
- Franciscan reached base four times on hit by pitch.
  
On the Mound
- Starter Ryan Neely did not have his best stuff, as he went 2.0 innings while allowing seven earned runs.
- Brody Hynes would come up huge in relief, as he pitched 4.2 innings with zero earned runs. 
- Hynes struck out two, while only allowing two hits.

How It Happened
Franciscan could not comeback in game two to salvage a split, as they fel 12-4 in nine innings. 

The Bison would get on the board in the first, as they plated pair of runs on three hits in the the first frame. Bethany would follow that up with a solo home run in the second inning by the designated hitter Whitehers. The Bison would have a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second, when Brendan Burke was able to drive in Kyle Ferrance. Bethany would keep up the offense, as they scored three more runs in the third, which would chase starting pitcher Jacob Watson out of the game. 

Brendan Burke would add to his RBI total, as he hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth, to bring Franciscan within four runs of Bethany. The Bison would not let off the gas, as the would score three more runs in the top of the 5th to pull ahead 9-2. Declan Peterson would drive in Ferrance in the seventh inning, to set the score at 10-3, but Franciscan was not able to make a large comeback, as they fell 12-4.

At the Plate
- Patrick Wallace and Joshua Speaker each recorded two hits.
- Kyle Ferrance scored three of Franciscan's four runs.
- Brendan Burke had two RBIs.
- Declan Peterson had one RBI
- Four Franciscan batters were hit by Bethany pitches.
  
On the Mound
- Starter Jacob Watson only pitched 2.1 innings with six earned runs.
- Samuel Tyler came in relief with 2.2 innings of work and a pair of earned runs. 
- Andrew Williamson had his longest appearance of the year, as he pitched two innings.
- Peter Falconite pitched for the first time this season, with one scoreless frame.
- Austin Horan pitched a clean ninth with one strikeout.

Up Next
Franciscan will travel across the Ohio River on Sunday, as they take on Bethany for a pair of games at their place. The first game will count towards PAC records, while the second game will be a non-conference game.
