How It Happened
The Franciscan Baseball team fell game one to Case Western, by a score of 11-4. Franciscan had the lead in the early goings, until Case Western would score four runs in the sixth inning to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Franciscan would take the lead in the top of the first inning, as
Patrick Wallace would hit a lead off double. PAC RBI-Leader
Joshua Costello would drive him in later in the inning on a single to center field. The Spartans bats would get started in the second inning. Three doubles in a row would plate two runs and they would take the lead. Wallace would continue his strong game for Franciscan, as he drove in
James Becker in the second to tie it back up at 2-2.
The Franciscan bats would keep it going in the third, as
Joshua Speaker would double in
Kyle Ferrance. Later in the inning, Furka wold double in Speaker to give the Barons a 4-2 edge. The Barons would not hold the lead for long, as The Spartans added a run in the fourth and fifth to tie it up at 4-4.
In the sixth, the Spartans would chase out
Noah Smith, the Franciscan starter, as they would retake the lead by plating four runs in the inning. Case Western would add an insurance run in the seventh and a pair in the eighth, as the Franciscan bats would not be able to get back on the board in this one. Franciscan falls 11-4 in nine innings.

Brendan Burke also had a pair of hits, as he went 2-5 on the day.
On the Mound

Noah Smith provided some much needed length, as he pitched into the 6th but allowed eight earned runs.

Joshua Speaker came in relief and pitched two innings with one earned run.

Samuel Tyler pitched a strong 1.2 innings of work, while allowing only one hit.

How It Happened
The Barons would fall in the second non-conference game of the day to the Spartans, by a score of 17-6.
The Spartans were able to strike first in the top of the first inning. Lott would go yard on a hot to left field. Then a two run double by Stawicki would give the Spartans a 3-0 edge.
Chris Furka would manufacture a run of his own in the bottom half of the first. After hitting an infield single, Furka would advance to third on a wild pick off attempt by Levine. Then a passed ball would score him from third base.
In the 2nd inning after a triple by Jarrett to right field, Haley would knock him in on a single. Then the Spartans would show off their power again, as Talarico would deliver a three run shot to center to stretch the lead to 7-1. Coach
Rick Carver would go to the bullpen for the top of the third.
John Pennefather would come in and shut down the Spartans to hold them scoreless in that inning.
Franciscan would get one run closer to the Spartans in the third, as
Michael Maynard would drive in Wallace on a solid hit single to center field. That would bring the score to 7-2. Pennefather would run into trouble in the top of the fourth, after recording two quick outs. He would hit a batter then walk three straight batters. After that a two run single would give the Spartans double digit runs for the game.
Brendan Burke would make his pitching debut of the season, he would deliver one pitch to get the elusive third out.
Burke would lose some command in the top of the fifth inning, as the Spartans would score three runs and chase him out of the game with runners at second and third.
Peter Falconite would come in on relief, and he would allow a single that would plate a pair of runs that would be credited to Burke. The Spartans would then deliver their third home run of the game, as Haley would drive a ball to left center field that would hit the scoreboard at Vaccaro Field. That would give the Spartans a 17-2 lead, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Barons would get a run back in the home half of the fifth. AS
Chris Furka would drive in
James Becker on a sacrifice fly. Furka would then move to the rubber to take over as the Franciscan pitcher in the top of the sixth. Furka would deliver back to back scoreless innings to neutralize the Case Western offense. The Barons would plate three runs in the ninth, as the Case Western pitchers would lose some control.
Joshua Costello drove in
Michael Troup to plate the first run.
Andrew Normandin was hit by a pitch and would score
Jacob Watson. Then
Brendan Burke would draw a walk to score
Michael Maynard. That would end the Baron threat,as they would lose 17-6.

Chris Furka was the only pitcher not to allow a run, as he pitched two innings of one hit ball.
Up Next
Franciscan will be off until Saturday when they take on their last PAC opponent in Waynesburg. They will play a doubleheader at their place on Saturday, and then a home doubleheader on Sunday.
