How It Happened
The Franciscan baseball team opened up their 2022 season on the road at Christendom on Friday evening. The Barons would get their season started off on the right foot at Bing Crosby Field, as they downed the Crusaders 9-1 in the nine inning game. 

We would be scoreless through two innings, but then the Barons would manufacture their first run in the top half of the third. Daniel Halsey would swipe a bag a score his first of three runs for Franciscan. The Barons offense would explode for four runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to a take a 7-0 lead. Christendom would score their lone run against Jacob Watson in the bottom half of the seventh, but he would complete the seventh. The Barons added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, as it was an old school attack of sound base running and small ball which was good to see in the first game of the year. 

At the Plate
- Patrick Wallace led the Barons with 3 RBIs while hitting his first triple of the season.
- Daniel Halsey scored three runs and hit a double.
- Anthony Franzonello made his debut coming in as a pinch hitter for Kyle Ferrance and scored a run after reaching base on a strikeout.

On the Mound
- Starter Jacob Watson pitched seven strong innings while only allowing one earned run.
- Watson struck out nine while walking just one
- Ryan Neely pitched two scoreless innings of relief ball to finish this one out.

Up Next
Franciscan will play two tomorrow against the Crusaders with the first game beginning at noon. 

Baron Summer Camps
Franciscan University Athletics is partnering with Steubenville Conferences to offer summer sports camps in conjunction with the Steubenville Main Campus 1 (June 9-12th, 2022) and 3 (June 23-26th, 2022). Youth Conferences. Participants will be able to strengthen both their athletic skills and their relationship with Christ in this uniquely Franciscan hybrid experience.
