How It Happened
The Franciscan baseball team played a pair of seven inning games at Christendom on Saturday. The Barons proved to be the better team than their fellow USCAAÂ Crusaders by sweeping the three game series over the weekend.
The Barons got their offense going in the second inning, The bottom of the order would load up the bases, and then
Daniel Halsey would keep up his strong weekend by driving in an RBI single.
Patrick Wallace would do the same, and
Aidan Hickey would draw a walk with the bases loaded to give Franciscan a 3-0 lead. Three more singles in the inning would allow three more runs to score as the Barons had 10 at bats in the second inning.Â
The Baron bats were not done, as they would plate four more runs in the third inning.
James Becker and
Daniel Halsey would get things going again. Becker reached base on an error than swiped second and third. Halsey delivered another single before swiping second as well. Wallace and Hickey both worked their way on board with a walk and an error. That gave
Brendan Burke an opportunity with runners on base, and he delivered a bases-clearing double. Franciscan led 10- through three innings.Â
That would be more than enough of a lead for
Jacob Whitmore, as he cruised through five plus innings with two earned runs. In the seventh the Barons got one more run with all their hits coming with two outs. Franciscan would take the first game 11-2

How It Happened
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Franciscan wasted little time scoring runs, as they had a very productive top of the first inning.
Patrick Wallace led off with a single, and then with one out,
Ryan Scavnicky delivered his first collegiate home run to give Franciscan a 2-0 lead. The middle of the order would load the bases upfor Becker and Halsey who have been dangerous all weekend.
James Becker delivered a two RBI single, and then
Daniel Halsey delivered the same all with two outs. That would bring your starter up to bat,
Patrick Wallace for a rare two at bat inning, as he would ground out, but he had to be happy to take the ball with a 6-0 lead.Â
Franciscan scored in bunches, as they plated four more runs in the third. The bottom of the order did another great job of getting on base, as they would load the bases full. A couple of walks would score some runs, and then
Brendan Burke drove a ball to right that scored a pair on an error by the right fielder. The Barons would score four more in the fourth. Anselmino and Tyler would get on with a pair of hits to start the inning. Becker grounded out to score Anselmino, and then Halsey drove in Tyler on a single.
Peter Falconite drove in Halsey after he got in scoring position with a stolen base, and then Scavnicky kept up his strong day, by doubling in Wallace. That gave Franciscan a 14-1 lead.
Wallace would get through five innings of work with only allowing the one earned run in his first collegiate start. The Barons plated four more runs in the sixth. Halsey led off with a double. A walk and hit by pitch would load the bases full. Scavnicky drove in his fourth run of the day on a sacrifice fly to center, and Wallace scored his fourth run of the game on an error. Then
Wade Stoehr delivered a pinch-hit two run home run on a 3-2 pitch to hit his first collegiate home run in his first collegiate at-bat. Franciscan would plate one mores in the seventh to win 19-1 in the seven inning contest.Â
