Highlights for the Barons
- In the first running event of the day, Mike Sobus placed 6th in the 3000 meter steeplechase. His time of 10:31.08 helped him get the Barons three points.
- Liam Galligan would grab the first gold of the day for the Barons in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:57.32. Mark Borek would also grab a medal, as he finished in third with a time of 4:00.25. Miguel Daez would make it three Barons standing next to each other on the podium, as he placed fifth with a time of 4:05.31.
- Freshman Joseph Rohde would get his first trip to the top of the podium, as he won the 400 meter dash. His time of 49.71 was a new personal best. Three more Barons would join Rohde on the podium, as it was a tight finish. David Cappello placed third with a time of 50.47. Just one hundredth of a second behind him was Easton Syvertson in fourth, and Ryan Ozymy placed fifth.Â
- In the 800 meter, Austen Duggan had a strong showing by placing third to grab the bronze medal. Not far behind him was Miguel Daez in fifth place with a time 1:56.95.
- In the field events, Charles Jardine placed 31st in the shot put with a best throw of 7.57 meters. Christopher Sniffin placed 15th in discuss with a best throw of 31.74 meters.
- Mark Borek was the fastest Baron in the 5000 meter, as he placed 5th with a time of 15:54.97. Freshman David Di Nardo also made the podium with an eighth place finish.
- In the final running event, the 4x400 relay, the Barons placed second with a time of 3:23.28.Â
- Mike Sobus was named to the PAC All-Sportsmanship team after the Championship
Up Next
Franciscan will now have a couple of athletes continue to compete in hopes of making the NCAA National Championship at the end of May. Their next competition is to be announced at a later date.
